Black Ganesha Wall Mask – Handcrafted Paper Mache from Odisha

This wall mask depicts Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, protector of new beginnings and symbol of wisdom, luck, and prosperity. Unlike the more traditional colorful versions of the deity, this piece goes for an all-over matte black, a choice that highlights each hand-carved relief and gives the mask a more contemporary, almost graphic look on a light-colored wall.

Crafted from paper mache using techniques practiced in the Odisha region, this mask is the result of expertise passed down through generations. The artisan first sculpts the general shape on a clay base, then applies several layers of paper pulp that dry naturally, before sanding and hand-painting each detail. This process can take several days depending on the complexity of the design.

No two pieces are strictly identical: slight variations in relief and finish are the signature of this entirely handmade work.
