Hari Hara Wall Mask – Handcrafted Papier-Mâché from Odisha
This wall mask depicts Hari Hara, a representation that unites the gods Vishnu (Hari) and Shiva (Hara) in a single face, symbolizing harmony and the balance of opposing forces. A rare motif in the collection, reserved for the most complex figures in Hindu mythology, where each half of the face bears the distinct attributes of each deity.
Crafted from papier-mâché using the technique practiced in the Odisha region, this mask requires particularly meticulous detail work to reconcile the two faces into a single harmonious composition: sculpting the base, layering paper pulp, natural drying, and then entirely hand-painting.
