Ardhanarishvara Wall Mask – Handcrafted Paper Mâché from Telangana

This wall mask depicts Ardhanarishvara, the sacred union of Shiva and Parvati in a single body, symbolizing the balance between masculine and feminine energies. Standing 30 cm tall, it is the largest piece from the same workshop as Varaha: the collective of Nagilla and his father, specialists in the tradition of Cheriyal painted scrolls in Telangana.

This art was originally used by itinerant storytellers to illustrate mythological tales on long scrolls unrolled before villagers. Nagilla's collective now adapts this expertise to contemporary wall masks, preserving the narrative spirit unique to Cheriyal.

No two pieces are strictly identical; slight variations in color and relief are the signature of this entirely handmade work.
