Yellow Lakshmi Feet, symbol of prosperity
This decorative foot duo represents Lakshmi Padalu, the footprints of the goddess Lakshmi in the Hindu tradition. They are traditionally placed on either side of a house entrance, facing inwards, to symbolize the arrival of prosperity and good fortune under the household's roof.
Handcrafted from papier-mâché by Indian artisans, they are shaped layer by layer then dried before being painted. This ancient technique, economical in raw material, allows for the creation of forms that are both light and solid, and is widely used in popular Indian crafts for masks as well as ritual objects.
