Kiff Kiff and Afghan craftsmanship: a human and cultural encounter

At Kiff Kiff, we are passionate about objects that tell a story. Behind every piece of jewelry, every accessory, or every decorative item lies a savoir-faire, a tradition, and often several generations of artisans.

For over a year, we have been developing collaborations with Afghan artisans based in the Nuristan region of Afghanistan, as well as with workshops of refugee artisans in Islamabad, Pakistan. This approach allows us to discover, preserve, and share exceptional artisanal traditions, among which Kuchi art holds a special place.

Who are the Kuchi?

The Kuchi are nomadic and semi-nomadic populations of Afghanistan. For centuries, they have traversed the mountains, valleys, and deserts of Central Asia, carrying with them their traditions, their craftsmanship, and their way of life.

Their creations are now recognized worldwide for their decorative richness, vibrant colors, and strong visual identity.

Characteristics of Kuchi art

Kuchi art is distinguished by the use of simple materials transformed into true artisanal works: colored glass inlays, handmade glass beads, hand-worked metal elements, geometric and tribal motifs.

Kuchi jewelry is particularly appreciated for its bohemian, ethnic, and nomadic aesthetic. Bracelets, necklaces, pendants, earrings, and hair accessories are designed as objects of cultural expression as much as they are ornaments.

At Kiff Kiff, we have chosen to work with trusted artisans and intermediaries to value their work and participate in the preservation of this exceptional cultural heritage.

Our collaboration with Nuristan and Islamabad

Part of our collections is made in partnership with artisans living in the Nuristan region, in northeastern Afghanistan. We also collaborate with workshops of Afghan refugee artisans in Islamabad, Pakistan.
